NAACP to hold press conference in New London over Taser incident By Greg Smith Publication: theday Published October 07. 2014 New London – The state and local branches of the NAACP plan a press conference this afternoon at the New London Police Department to announce an investigation into what they called “yet another allegation of police misconduct and excessive force by the New London Police Department.” The press conference is a response to the death this weekend of Lashano Gilbert, a 31-year-old suspect in an attempted carjacking who police stunned twice with a Taser within an eight-hour period. Police said the use of a Taser was a response to Gilbert’s bizarre and violent behavior. The NAACP, in a statement, said the family of Gilbert filed a formal complaint with the Connecticut NAACP on Monday, alleging that New London police officers violated his civil rights. “The family is seeking transparency and federal oversight of the investigation,” the statement reads. State police major crime detectives are conducting a use of force investigation.
