NABTEB CERTIFICATES TO BECOME QUALIFICATION FOR FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDS THE Federal Government has directed the Federal Scholarship Board (FSB) to impress it on foreign countries to recognise certificates issued by the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) as entry qualification for foreign scholarship awards. The directive, which was made through the Minister of Education, is in respect of NABTEB’s National Technical Certificate (NTC) and National Business Certificate (NBC). Besides, the Federal Government approved in May 2013, the National Vocational Qualifications Framework (NVQF), which is aimed at recognising the products of the formal, non-formal and informal components in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Minister of State for Education,Chief Nyesom Wike, made this known in an address presented at the opening session of a meeting for the selection and placement of candidates into Federal Science and Technical Colleges (FSTC) for the 2013/2014 session held recently at NABTEB national headquarters in Benin City. The minister of state, represented by the Director, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET),Mr Michael Offor, also said the government was developing a new National Occupational Standard (NOS) in six new skills areas while the old NOS was being reviewed. Wike pointed out that these government’s measures were to ensure quality assurance and increased access to TVET, just as he told participants at the meeting to be as fair as possible in the selection and placement process by conforming to the laid down criteria for the exercise. According to Wike, “the vision of TVET in Nigeria demands that we look ahead, dream thefuture for the country, and should, therefore, focus on Technical and Vocational Education for the developmentof our dear country.
