NAIROBI COUNTY WOMEN BENEFIT FROM WOMEN ENTERPRISE FUND ( WEF) Planning Principal Secretary Eng. Peter Mangiti has urged women to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the Women Enterprise Fund (WEF) to start small businesses. Eng.Mangiti was speaking at Kenyatta International Convention Centre when he gave out cheques worth Ksh 10.2 million to 87 Women Groups in Nairobi County. He said WEF was established to provide alternative financial services to women who are excluded from the formal and informal financial sectors and advised women to form groups so as to utilize the available resources to improve their standards of living in the region. The Principal Secretary stressed that it is important for women to identify themselves with self help groups as the government will only channel various loans through registered groups. He said it is advisable for those intending to borrow money to be members of identifiable groups where they can even organize to be sensitized on entrepreneurship as well as receive funding from various financial institutions. Mangiti told Women not to fear borrowing loans since it would help them realize their business dreams as well as contribute to the growth of their enterprises. “Our women must diversify their economic activities so that they could uplift the living standards of their families,” Mangiti said. He also challenged the youth to form groups which is one of the requirements for qualifying for the UWEZO fund that is meant for the youth. The PS further urged women to work hard and utilize the money properly to enable them repay as required by the rules and regulations of the fund. The officials of the groups which got the highest loans advised other women to have good plans. Table banking concept was one of the means in which the groups use to raise money. Women beneficiaries also appreciated the money but wished they could access more to engage in more serious activities amounting to Millions of Money. Ends……
