NAMES AND FORTUNES Watchout what you ask for your son/ daughter! ! Jomo Kwame Sundaram is a prominent Malaysian Economist , named after liberation leaders Jomo Keyatta OF Kenya and Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana. When I met this man at the just ended Pan-African conference on inequality, his color and name were surprisingly a mismatched in my eyes. I always thought this was another halfcuts with a Malaysian n Ghanaian or Kenyan parents, an Obama-like fela. I had head about him as a leading authority on development economics and an international diplomat n he actually is one. I must confess though, that I was not impressed with his presentation at the conference. But that partly reflects my high expectations given his BIG name rather a very poor presentation. Jomo was trained at Yale and Havard after secondary education in his native country, Malaysia and has a very long long long useful CV. Probably longer than any I have ever seen until now. In short, Jomo is a successful man in his God chosen career, Economist. Another name with success story is Goodluck Jonathan, president of Nigeria whose wife name is Patience. His ascendancy to the presidency was probably faster than the speed of the flowing Nile River. It took him less than 10 years to rise from veterinary officer to the presidency, most of which without going through the rigor of elections. the list of names that translate into personal and societal fortunes can full the archives of the Kiel Institute for World Economy. The LORD told us to ask and we shall be given. God is a super democratic being and does not force anything onto us. Otherise you get what you ask for. I have seen names, almost across Ghana and Africa that portray meanings bitter than LIFETIME CURSES ... one of my school mates at primary school used to be known as Akamie Nsoh literally meaning clueless or dump father and he was arguably the dumpest of his class..... others are Anasah meaning Mr/s poor, Akongyem meaning LACK OF SENSE OR senseless and whole load of other terrible names across all the tribes. My friend Fortunate Fio visited me and questioned why my sister who was also visiting us would name her son Lazarus cos this was a v V poor man according to the Bible. Since then I have examined countless names ACROSS TRIBES in Ghana and elsewhere on the continent and save few exceptions, the individual status and personality are largely a reflection of his/her name. Watch out what name you give to your son or daughter cos the Lord gives and put into action what you ask for . Happy May Day and may God continue to bless our farmers who feed us without earthly rewards.
