NAMING IS NOT ENOUGH. When I was born, my parents named after my grandpa, that is, Ephantus Thandi Kariuki (Kariuki is my Dad). A name was added to my long name in 1994, when my cousin, whom we share a name came to live with us,and I was named Thandi Kanini(the small one) since I was younger. As I went to High school, my mates called me Thandi Kanyama( small piece of meat) because of a joke I made about meat. later one they named me Mwatuka( a crack on the wall) since I was, and as well is dark. During one of the Science congresses in high school, I had a project making, organic yoghurt which I called BENTUS. This became my new name as we went out for games. This is because my project had become popular, and I was in a more competitive high school. Just before I joined the University of Nairobi, I was made to understand that my Kikuyu culture had provision of two names and my 2nd name was MUCUHIA. I decided to add up all the names and form one, that is, EPHANTUS BENTUS SPARKS MUCUHIA THANDI KARIUKI. When I traveled to USA, I didnt just add another name, i.e, SANDY, but learned a lot. By learning how people are committed to God, I now understand that it doesnt matter how many titles or long names you have, but how you remain relevant!
