NAP CONTORTIONS: I see a lot of sometimes silly discussion in various places about whether such-and-such violates the libertarian non-aggression principle or not, such as whether it would be aggression or not for a parent to physically restrain their preschooler from running into heavy traffic. Its not as complicated or problematic as a lot of you seem to think. One thing to keep in mind is that the NAP is not a religious creed describing sin vs a state of grace. Its an ethical doctrine concerned with when violence should be considered lawful or not. No harm, no foul. If youre convinced a trivial harm is the common sense thing to do, then be responsible about making things right afterward. There will always be borderline cases where an otherwise good person believes, rightly or wrongly, that they must act in a trivially unlawful manner and accept responsibility for compensating the small or even difficult to identify amount of damage they did.
