NAPALM DEATH, SHANE EMBURY TALKS ABOUT BABYMETAL: Hey guys, ive transcripted part of the article that Shame Embury wrote for Metal Hammer Magazine about Babymetal, hope you like it. I first discovered Babymetal the usual way that i discover bands - that is, by hearing people talking about them at festivals and seeing them on newsfeeds on websites, plus, with my wife being Japanese, we inevitably heard it down the grapevine from friends over there. I like all sorts of music, so im not opposed to listening to anything different and when i heard Babymetal, i actually thought it was an interesting combination. Ive toured Japan many times and Babymetal remind me of the sort of bands you hear blasting out of the speakers when youre walking on the streets of Shibuya, Tokyo. Some people are also offered simply by Babymetal being labelled as metal. Why? Why would you get offended? Its a big genre, metal. Theres all kinds of bands crossing over. Bands like Evanescence or the whole folk metal thing... For me Babymetal is an extension of that. Whats it going to be like in 10 years? It will be insane. So Babymetal is quite encouraging to me. And after all, it was the bands crossing over 20 years ago that paved the way for all thse bands around today to say, Ok, lets combine this and this! You can say its not metal - and thats bullshit. Ive heard stuff that is supposedly true metal that is worse than Babymetal. And ive also been to festivals and thought, hmm, thats kind of generic, whereas at least Babymetal is unusual.
