NAPF and Commonwealths selection process - REVISED Im fairly - TopicsExpress

NAPF and Commonwealths selection process - REVISED Im fairly certain there will be tremendous interest to compete at the NAPF and Commonwealth Championships. Im also certain there is some dissatisfaction with the proposed selection process. Consider the location of 2015 Nationals and the locations of NAPFs and Commonwealths. How does the CPU Board make certain a lifter from Vancouver who supported previous Nationals is not ruled out from lifting at Commonwealth Championships in her home province because she cant afford the trip to Newfoundland? Equally what happens when the class and category winner from Nova Scotia cant make the trip to Saskatchewan or B.C.? If Nationals were held in Victoria and NAPF and Commonwealth Championships running in Halifax and St. Johns, the CPU Board would have the same concerns. Our bylaws deal specifically with team selection for World Championships with no mention of IPF Regional Championships. For past NAPF or Commonwealth Championship teams, national or international experience was preferred however anyone with a CPU card could potentially be considered. For example, a lifter was selected to attend 2014 NAPFs on the condition that he post his FIRST total at a CPU sanctioned meet before leaving for the NAPF Championships. It has been suggested that by considering totals from past Nationals, there is an incentive to skip 2015 Nationals. Nothing could be further from the truth. The goal is to have the most successful Nationals showcasing the best Canadian powerlifting ever. The goal is to send the best team to both IPF Regional Championships. The big picture goal is to raise the standard of Canadian powerlifting by giving lifters an incentive to exceed the performances of previous years and win their spots! REVISED Selection Criteria 1) To be considered, you must have lifted at 2015 or 2014 or 2013 Nationals 2) 2015 Nationals class and category winners will be given priority consideration for team spots 3) If after the class and category winners from 2015 Nationals and applicants from previous Nationals have been selected and there are still empty spots, lifters who competed at Western or Eastern Championships or Provincials will be considered An updated Team Canada application form specific to the NAPF and Commonwealth Championships will be posted to the CPU website in the near future.
