NASA Television will provide live coverage of the undocking of the ISS Progress 53 spacecraft from the International Space Station beginning at 9 a.m. EDT. Undocking is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. The unpiloted Progress 53 Russian cargo ship, which arrived at the space station in November 2013, will depart from the Zvezda Service Module. After its departure, the spacecraft will move away from the orbiting laboratory to a safe location where it will remain until commanded to reenter Earths atmosphere. The intense heat of reentry will cause the vehicle to burn up over the Pacific Ocean. Reentry is scheduled for 1:11 p.m. this afternoon. Progress 53 previously left the orbiting outpost on April 23 in order to perform a series of engineering tests during re-docking designed to verify an upgraded automated rendezvous system that will facilitate future dockings of Russian vehicles to the space station. The vehicle re-docked April 25 after successfully completing those tests.
