NASAs Dawn just released new images of Ceres, a dwarf planet in the Asteroid belt. Its diameter is about 950km. In comparison, the Earths diameter is 12,742km, our Moons is 3,476km, Pluto is 2,302KM. Ceres is a rock ice body that takes up 30%-40% of all of the mass in the asteroid belt. It is about the size of Texas. It turns on its axis once every 9 hours, so thats how long a day is on Ceres. It orbits the Sun once every 4.6 years. In 1802 Heinrich Olbers proposed that Ceres is the remnants of a destroyed planet.
