NATIONAL CONFERENCE UPDATE --------------------- The report presented by the Committee on Religion recommends that a Religious Equity Commission be set up to protect existing religious freedom as guaranteed under the Constitution. Some delegates suggested that government should cease from interfering in religious affairs and that Nigeria should remain a secular state as stated in the constitution. Others argued further, that the government should stop sponsoring pilgrimages and that the Christian and Muslim Pilgrims Boards respectively be shut down so that the National Human Rights Commission oversees all religious affairs.
