NATIONAL HEROES DAY 2013... If some of our heroes were alive today as kids, then: - Rizal will pull down the red drape and imagine himself flying as Superman; - Bonifacio will prefer the likes of Van Helsing or Blade, eliminating “obstacles” left and right – with his sharp “bolo”; - matching him with her sharp blade shall be Gabriela Silang who shall idolize Elektra or Ultraviolet, and she’ll keep watching Mila Jovovich as the slayer in “Resident Evil”, with the fashion sense of the samurai-carrying Uma Thurman in “Kill Bill”; - Gregorio del Pilar will dashingly emulate Agent 007 – with Antonio Luna saying that he must be James Bond because he’s older; - The GomBurZa trio will of course argue on who shall be “Constantine” – the church hero played by Keanu Reeves; - Trece Martirez, or The 13 Martyrs, will noisily distribute The X-Men among themselves; But while E. Jacinto and A. Mabini will be intellectually dissecting the underlying wisdom in the stories written by Mars Ravelo, Carlo J. Caparas, or those published by Marvel and DC Comics – a voice shall rise above the din, and shout out “Darna!”… and everyone becomes quiet, because it’s Tandang Sora.
