NATIONAL KART ACTION HEADED FOR KZN The third round of the blockbuster South African National Karting Championship goes down at iDube in the Kwazulu Natal Midlands Saturday 28 June. The action likely to reach a climax with the rest of the country out to stop the charge of Cape Town drivers who find themselves in the lead of several classes of the now combined, single championship chase. Cape kids Aidan Strydom (Turbo Tech Tony Kart), and Charl Visser (Battery Energy Zanardi) each dominated both of the 60cc primary school Maxterino and Mini Rok classes in the respective recent Cape Town and Port Elizabeth Nationals. Both will have a swarm of rivals wanting to topple them at iDube and among their pursuers will be fellow Capetonians Jason Coetzee (Zanardi), JP Hamman (RKT Kosmic) and Joseph Oelz (Clear Zanardi), Gauteng RKT Kosmic trio Jordan North, Dillon van Vuuren and Blaine Rademeyer, and Jozi Top Kart duo Kwanda Makoena and Nemo Mazwai, most of who will race in both those classes. Another class where fierce interprovincial rivalry is part of the deal is the hectic high school age group Junior Max 125cc class, where Cape Town winner Kohen Bam (SAKRA Kosmic) and his Cape compatriots Delano Fowler (Suprocom TonyKart) and Henry Bam (RKT Kosmic) will have their work cut out by the likes of iDube home track heroes; PE winner and reigning SA champion Jordan Sherratt (Birel) and former world Mini Rok champion Clinton Bezuidenhout (RKT Kosmic). Also never discount Stuart White (RKT Kosmic) from Bloemfontein, Cape Town drivers Dino Stermin, Isabella Fowler and Sebastian Boyd, and Namibian Adriaan Nel. Kashen Naicker (SAI Zanardi) is the man to beat in the high school 125cc Junior Rok, but Jason Smith (TonyKart), Stuart White (RKT Kosmic), Natalian Chayse Augustus (Hugos Kosmic) and Reef Birel drivers Delon Thompson and Neha Harpal will be out to stop him. The open age group Max Challenge 125cc race has been a Cape Town benefit so far, with Luke Herring (RKT Kosmic), Eugene Denyssen (SAKRA TonyKart), Julian van der Watt (Zanardi), Umpie Swart (Indy Oil Birel) and Jonathan Aberdein (TonyKart) all very close on top of the championship table, but Jo’burg lad Wesley Vosloo (TonyKart) will be among those intent on preventing further Cape domination. PE Zanardi driver Chassen Bright has blitzed the open Super Rok 125cc class while hometown rival Simon Moss (Energy) and Jo’burg’s Keagan Masters (TonyKart) have battled behind him. Both of those men, Jason Hill and PE lass Maika Trzebiatowsky will among be out to stop Chassen’s charge at iDube. Vereeniging’s Arnold Neveling (RKT Zanardi), Ryan Frost (Birel) and Natalian Benjamin Habig (TonyKart) have grabbed the early season advantage in the explosive and highly popular DD2 gearbox class, but considering that the star-studded field includes the likes of multiple world karting champions Cristiano Morgado (TonyKart) and Wesleigh Orr (Energy), never mind chargers the likes of Eugene Britz (CRG) Bradley Liebenberg (Birel), Jonathan Thomas (Partners Hair Zanardi), Luca Canderle (CRG) among the likely thirty starters, extreme action is guaranteed. The racing will be rounded off by an invitation Cadet class races for 4-8 year olds. Situated on the R103 close to Offramp 61 on the N3 near Camperdown heading toward Pietermaritzburg in KZN, the undulating, challenging and dramatic iDube kart track is one of the favourite races in SA Karting’s new blockbuster national format, so if you’re in the area, don’t miss the action.
