NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Bartlett High School student Michael McGrath was named a semifinalist in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 1.4 million juniors from 22,000 high schools qualified for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors are selected as semi-finalists. “Congratulations to Michael on this excellent academic achievement,” said U-46 CEO Tony Sanders. “It requires an impressive academic track record to qualify for a National Merit Scholarship.” The National Merit Program is privately financed and the majority of scholarships offered are underwritten by approximately 440 independent sponsor organizations. National Merit Finalists are evaluated on test scores, academic record, written recommendations, student activities and leadership skills, and an essay.
