NATIONAL TERRITORY "The national territory comprises the Philippine archipelago, with all the islands and waters embraced therein, and all other territories over which the Philippines has sovereignty or jurisdiction, consisting of its terrestrial, fluvial, and aerial domains, including its territorial sea, the seabed, the subsoil, the insular shelves, and other submarine areas. The waters around, between, and connecting the islands of the archipelago, regardless of their breath and dimensions, form part of the internal waters of the Philippines." The Territorial sea is now 12 miles from the coastal states and subject to 200 nautical miles Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The United Nations of the sea convention(Sea Law Treaty), aside from recognizing the archipelago, 16 extends sovereignty by coastal waters for 19 kms. (12 nautical miles) from their shores and give them,(states) Exclusive control(Economic fishing rights) over all natural resources, within 320 kms. (200 nautical miles) out of the sea. EZZ covers an area of 395,400 square nautical miles of water or 132 sq. nautical zone. ARCHIPELAGIC DOCTRINE : Integration of a group of islands to the sea and their oneness so that together they can constitute one unit, one country, and one state. An imaginary line single baseline is drawn around the island by joining appropriate points outermost islands of the archipelago with straight lines and all islands and waters enclosed within the baseline from part of the Territory. The main purpose is to protects of an archipelago.
