NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ISSUES FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR EAST CENTRAL LARIMER COUNTY until 445 PM The National Weather Service has issued a FLASH FLOOD WARNING until 4:45 PM today (5/25) for East Central Larimer County. At 2:16 PM Doppler Radar indicated a thunderstorm producing heavy rain over Mishawaka. The rain is moving west at 10MPH. Flash Flooding expected to begin shortly. Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will result in debris flow moving through the northern portions of High Park and the Hewlett burn area. The debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials. Automated rain guage indicated .71 inches of rain had fallen just north of the High Park burn area. ** Some locations that will experience flooding include: BUCKHORN MOUNTAIN, POUDRE PARK, MISHAWAKA and TEDS PLACE.. including the areas of RIST CANYON, BUCKHORN CREEK, REDSTONE CANYON, STOVE PRAIRIE and Gulches draining into the POUDRE CANYON along HIGHWAY 14. AGAIN… heavy rainfall in this area will cause flash flooding of creeks, streams, roads and culverts in the High Park burn area. Rock slides or debris flows can also be expected across roads in the burn area. Move to higher ground now! Act quickly to protect your life. **Additional Information 5/25/14 3:05 PM ** The Poudre River was reported at 6.6 feet this morning and is forecasted to reach 7.2 feet by approximately 2AM Monday morning (5/26) before going down...7.5 feet is flood stage. At 7.5 feet there is considerable overbank flow and localized flooding downstream in and near Fort Collins. For reference, at 6.0 feet the water is over the bike path and trail along the river in and near the Fort Collins area.
