NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA MAKURDI 2013, NATIONAL CONGRESS ASPIRANTS FORUM A PRESS STATEMENT PRESENTED BY THE ASPIRANT FORUM ON THE 6TH JUNE, 2013 AT THE RALLY AGAINT THE ACTIONS OF THE HON. MINISTER FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ON THE INCONCLUSIVE MAKURDI CONGRESS. Protocol, In reaction to the unfortunate developments emanating from the inconclusive 2013 National Congress of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, held in Makurdi, Benue State between 23rd to 26th May, 2013, we the screened, cleared and accredited aspirants for the National Congress/ Election wish to use this medium to express our disappointment in the Federal Ministry of Youth Development as led by the Minister for Youth Development, Honourable Inuwa Abdulkarir. OBSERVATIONS: That Government has realized that there were no elections in Makurdi 2013 Congress and they are ready to do the right thing to promote peace, development and progress among Nigerian Youths within few days. That the Minister has become a bad influence and a negative role model who is capable of instilling the wrong values to the entire Nigerian Youths considering the national campaign of the government (DO THE RIGHT THING) through the National Orientation Agency. That the Minister is a hidden opposition in the cabinet of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who is now considered as great advocate for One Man One Vote, as demonstrated in the just concluded Edo and Ondo States Gubernatorial Elections. That the Congress was well attended and the Nigerian Youths were ready to show leadership based on the peaceful manner they conducted themselves throughout the Congress despite the high level of provocation by the Ministry of Youth Development but we state that the Nigerian Youths are ever ready to positively contribute to the peace, development and progress of this great nation irrespective of the vexed situation they found themselves. On the appeal from DG, SSS and SSA to the president on Youth and Student Matters (Comr Jude Imagwe, MON) and all other relevant agencies of Government, we however observe retrain on our Mass Protest against Electoral Fraud, Rape on Democracy, Imposition and Gross Injustice mated to the Nigerian Youths to give room for further engagements as agreed. DEMANDS: We call on the presidency to in fulfillment of all agreed issues partner with the Transition Committee as instituted by the Congress to conduct a credible and democratic Congress/Election to usher in true leadership for the entire Nigerian Youth within 90 days. That President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, should with immediate effect relieve (SACK) the Minister of Youth, Mr Iniwa Abdulkadir from office since he has been disconnected from the President’s Transformation Agenda in the management and administration of Youth Development activities in Nigeria. That the Government as a matter of urgency stop the Yakubu Shendam imposed executives from parading themselves as the leaders of the Council and dissociates it’s self from their impersonating activities. That we hereby call on the presidency to make a categorical statement within 7days as promised to correct the wrongs and to prevent the Nigerian Youth from shutting down all Government institutions. We wish to use this medium to appreciate all the groups who stood by us in this fight against electoral fraud, imposition, rape on democracy and gross injustice (NUJ, NLC, NBA, Save Nigeria Group, Alliance for Credible Election, Transparency International, Anti Corruption Network, NANS, and Campaign for Democracy). Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta. Build the Youth, Build the Nation. Chris C. Ibe Solomon Idiogbe Coordinator Aspirants Forum Chairman Transition Committee NYCN
