NATO Foreign Ministers Urge NATO Channel Of Communication To Russia The NATO foreign ministers meeting in Brussels on Tuesday (Dec. 2) called on NATO to adopt a crisis management mechanism, such as that which existed during the Cold War to prevent accidents and misunderstandings from escalating out of control. Ministers agreed that at this time of tension there is a need for regular communications among NATO and Russian military to avoid any incidents, and that NATO military authorities should keep channels of military communications open and use them when necessary to avoid any possible misunderstandings related to military activities, said NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu, according to the Wall Street Journal. We determined that the NATO foreign ministers would ask the NATO secretary-general to seek ways to rebuild contact on the level of military experts, in order to make sure we have a minimum level of exchange with Russia in this critical time, added German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. This might come in the form of renewed contacts between senior military leaders. Russias ambassador to NATO, Alexander Grushko, endorsed the idea. I believe that if NATO comes forward with the idea to reestablish some forms of military contacts, our military authorities will consider such a possibility, he said. larouchepac/20141205/nato-foreign-ministers-urge-nato-channel-communication-russia
