NATTY DREAD!! The origin of the Nazarene vow When everything was ready Osiris, vowing to the gods to never cut his hair until his return to Egypt, began his march through Ethiopia; this vow gave rise to the custom concerning the hair which prevailed until recent times amongst the Egyptians, that those traveling abroad would let their hair grow until returning home Diodorus book 1 Osiris Egyptian name was Ausar. Others forms of this name include Asa and Aza. In Greek he was known as Dionysus, from Dios (referring to the sun representing Zeus/Amen, his father) and Nysa (the place where he was raised). The word Nazarene clearly contains these elements: N (Nysa) - Asa/Aza (ausar) - ene Or Nysa-rene Coincidentally in Osiris tale he is spreading the use of various crops, particularly of note wine and beer, as well as other domesticated crops. To me the parallels the Nazarene vow not to touch dead flesh, as the reason for Osiris mission was to bestow upon the people the more civil practice of domestic farming as opposed to the more barbaric means of eating flesh. Also of note is that one of the main elements of Osiris story is the spreading of wine and beer. The Nazarene vow however instructs to stay away from strong drink. In Osiris tale however he begins to notice how when the people drink, the become either very joyous or very sullen and sometimes when people have had to much they became violent with each other. The wine of that time also was not mixed with water or anything so it was very strong. Therefore Osiris devised a means to mix the drink with water thereby weakening it and making its consumers less volatile. I believe you can correlate Osiriss efforts to weaken the strong drink to the Nazarene vows instruction to avoid strong drink. https://youtube/watch?v=YKEJj9dGZcA
