NATURE PROGRAMS & HIKES DECEMBER 26, 27 & 28, 2014 FRIDAY 8:30 am GUIDED BIRD WATCHING HIKE – Meet at the 40-Acre Lake rest rooms. Bring binoculars. 11:30 am ANIMAL TALES (IP) – Owl Moon - Listen to a book about a young girl’s first night hike with her father. Book followed by show, tell & touch with owl specimens. 1:30 pm ARMADILLO VIDEO & TALK (IP) – Learn about the official small mascot of Texas. SATURDAY 10:00 am CREEKFIELD LAKE NATURE HIKE -1/2 mile, paved trail, approximately 1.5 hours 10:30 am GEOCACHING 101 – Learn to use a GPS then go on high-tech scavenger hunt. LIMIT 20 PEOPLE 11:30 am STORY TIME (IP) – Listen to a book then participate in a craft project. 1:30 pm THE WONDERFUL LIVES OF SNAKES (IP) – Learn the facts about the animals most people love to hate. Live, non-venomous snakes. 3:30 pm CREATURES OF THE NIGHT (IP) – Don’t be afraid of the park after dark. Learn to identify sounds of common nocturnal species. 5:30 pm BIRD BLIZZARD – Meet at the Observation Tower on the 40-Acre Lake Trail to watch as “gazillions” of migratory Red-winged Blackbirds settle into the marsh for a long winter’s nap. SUNDAY 10:00 am CREEKFIELD LAKE NATURE HIKE -1/2 mile, paved trail, approximately 1.5 hours 1:30 pm ALLIGATORS (IP) – Learn about North America’s largest reptile and Brazos Bend’s most popular resident. 3:30 pm WILDLIFE VIEWING – Meet with a park ranger at the Elm Lake Viewing Platform in the Elm Lake Picnic Area to view through a high-powered scope.
