NBA Rumors: Latest Rumblings Surrounding Kevin Love and More: Remember the good old days on the NBA rumor mill when LeBron James was still deciding between the Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Carmelo Anthony was pretending money didn’t matter and the rest of the market was waiting on pins and needles to see which teams would have available cap room after the big superstars signed? Now that the key decisions have been made, our NBA rumors are largely relegated to Kevin Love speculation. Fear not, though, because there are still some big moves on the radar. With that in mind, here is a look at some of the latest rumors floating around the NBA. Kevin Love Darren Wolfson of Minneapolis and St. Pauls 5 Eyewitness News filled fans in on the latest regarding Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves: The potential trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers has been discussed ad nauseam since James decided to return home. At this point, it is simply a matter of whether Cleveland is willing to give up a potential future superstar in Andrew Wiggins for a legitimate force at power forward who could help stretch the floor for James and dominate the glass. If nothing else, thinking of Love throwing outlet passes to James should have basketball purists excited. Love has also been connected to the Chicago Bulls, and Derrick Rose commented on the rumors, via Sam Smith of Bulls: Many see the Cavs and Bulls as the top two teams in the wide-open Eastern Conference, so the power structure of the league is hanging in the balance with these Love rumors. Whichever team gets to represent the East against the loaded West could be decided long before the actual season tips off. Metta World Peace Ian Begley of ESPN New York provided an update on Metta World Peace: It may be time to celebrate for those who were hoping to see World Peace play basketball again. He did play for the New York Knicks in the 2013-14 campaign but only participated in 29 games before being waived in February. World Peace is 34 years old, so there should theoretically be a few more productive years remaining in the tank. He averaged double-digit points every season from the 1999-00 campaign to 2009-10 and peaked in scoring in 2007-08 with the Sacramento Kings at 20.5 a game. What’s more, he has always been an absolute force on the defensive end. World Peace is not going to be the superstar player that fans grew accustomed to seeing during his prime, but he could be a critical piece for the Sichuan Blue Whales. If he is productive there, we may even see him come off the bench in the NBA sooner rather than later. He would be worth a flyer for a contending team looking to add depth if he stays healthy. Ricky Rubio Wolfson filled fans in on the latest regarding Ricky Rubio: We can debate whether Rubio is worth potential max money or a contract parallel to Stephen Curry’s, but at the least he still has time to prove himself. Rubio just played his first complete 82-game season at the NBA level last year and averaged 9.5 points, 8.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.7 turnovers behind 38.1 percent shooting from the field and 33.1 percent shooting from downtown. Yes, cutting down on those turnovers would be ideal, but it is somewhat excusable since he handles the ball so often. If the Timberwolves do eventually trade Love, Rubio would be the immediate face of the franchise until Wiggins developed, providing the hypothetical swap was with Cleveland. Rubio will be under enormous pressure to keep the squad competitive. A productive season under those circumstances would certainly help Rubio in any potential bargaining discussions down the road. There is still plenty to be determined in this case, though, so it will be worth keeping an eye on going forward.
