NBB Question from anon: When I was pregnant with my second I was 41 weeks, I had felt unwell for about 2 weeks and not in a sick way but rather like my body was just done. What I was told and expecting to be a healthy robust bub turned out to be a very long but very skinny baby boy. The midwife whisked bub away as he needed a little help to kick start his breathing and to check heart until he let out a cry. She commented about his size to the Dr. Then my placenta came out. It was all shrivelled and dried up kind of like a deflated balloon. I remember my first his placenta was very fluid filled and plump. I asked many questions as to what might of happened and the only answer I have is my placenta gave up stopped working and poor bub was living off his fat stores. Well the tactful Dr said like a carton of milk, a placenta has an expiry date and mine just expired early. I was very confused and emotional as the following day he dropped to 5lb and didnt seem to be doing well at all as he just vomited every feed. To then be told if we didnt come in when we did and I had laboured at home (as I planned) we may not have our little boy today. Then I wasnt allowed to leave hospital and was moved into the private ward but again no one was telling me why all I got was I wasnt feeding him enough and we had spent so much time in hospital. I began feeling all alone as each Dr said its so rare to happen I had no real answers. My baby is now 4 weeks and thankfully is now back to birth weight and is doing well. Any mums whove been through this, Id really appreciate their story so I dont feel so alone.
