NBG is deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Maya Angelou on Wednesday, May 28, 2014. We will forever treasure our time spent with her last June as she gave an amazing performance in celebration of our 75th anniversary. After the performance, I was walking with her offstage and thanked her for making a difference in this world. She grabbed my hand and squeezed it tightly and humbly looked into my eyes and said, “Thank you for noticing.” It wasn’t just me that noticed… the entire world stood and took notice. We wish her peace and thank her for making our world a better place. Let’s honor her by making a difference somewhere, somehow with something. The staff and Board of Trustees of Norfolk Botanical Garden sends our deepest condolences to her family, friends and a nation of fans.
