NBV Voter, Several weeks ago I heard rumors that Mr. Garcia was preparing a negative/hit mail piece on me and planning to mail it close to the day of elections. If you checked you mail box yesterday or today you will know that it’s no longer a rumor. So, while I’m disappointed by his dirty tricks, I’m not totally surprised by them. This is typical behavior of a political candidate who has no accomplishment or positive message to communicate. And instead tries to get your vote by using empty rhetoric and negative personal attacks against the opponent. If anyone had any doubts that “desperate people do desperate things.” Mr. Garcia dispelled them with this stunt. And to think that this is the same person who sent me an email (attached) in early September saying in part …” I want to keep the campaign about the issues, not about bullying and dirty tricks.” (I included his email and my reply at the end of the post for easier reading.) As anyone who has lived in NBV for more than 2 years know, and will tell you, residents and voters of NBV are sick and tired of negative politics. I believe Mr. Garcia, with this dirty politics mail piece, not only put his campaign at risk with the voters, but may have also crossed the line and may be guilty of Libel and of Violating a Miami-Dade Ethical Campaign Ordinance which he chose to abide by and signed as such (attached). I also signed the same document with the difference that I’m abiding by it. Below is a recent FB post from a resident which indicates how fed up NBV residents are with Dirty Politics. Also, in case you didn’t catch it on the other side… he abandoned his original platform. I guess Clean & Safe Streets, Transparent Finances, etc. wasn’t cutting it for him anymore. No one was buying that old empty rhetoric anymore. So now he’s trying a new empty rhetoric to see if it works on you (pics below) New Flash Mr. Garcia… not only are NBV voters Sick of negative politics, they are NOT easy to fool either. I believe Leadership is about Character… You can call yourself a bold leader with fresh ideas all you want. But if you don’t have the Character to be a Leader, you will never be one regardless of how long you keep saying or writing it. Early on in my campaign I promised the voters and residents that I would run a positive campaign on the issues which are important to NBV and that’s exactly what I’ve done, and will, continue to do through November 4th . I have not, and will, not send any negative mail, either in print or electronic, nor will allow anyone connected to my campaign to do so. I’m sticking to my principles and on getting my message of a brighter tomorrow out to all NBV residents. We’re only one week away! Please don’t allow dirty politics and empty rhetoric to distract or discourage you. More than previous elections, this election is critical to the future of NBV for years to come! We can’t go back to the dysfunctional type of government we had in the past!... SO LET’S STAY FOCUSED AND VOTE: VOTE to Keep & Support our Village Manager & Staff VOTE to Keep & Support Our Police Officers & Making Public safety a Priority VOTE to Keep fighting for the State funds we need to fix our Water/Sewer Infrastructure VOTE for Sensible Economic Development VOTE to Support Education & Our Kids VOTE to Support Quality of Life Programs VOTE to Hold the line on spending to keep our taxes low VOTE for Open & Responsive Government VOTE for POSITIVE Leadership, Vision & Proven Results and let’s continue working Together to keep NBV moving towards a Brighter Future! I was faced yesterday with a professional issue that seemed to be campaign related. The issue was resolved but I am very concerned that our mutual campaign will quickly degenerate into the personal, destructive attacks that North Bay Village has seen it the past. I want to keep the campaign about the issues, not about bullying and dirty tricks. Can you and I meet to talk about this and make sure we both get the message to our supporters that we wont be engaging in a campaign of destruction but rather a campaign of engagement about ideas. My work schedule lets me about 7PM during the week. Can we meet for a coffee? I do not condone dirty tricks or personal attacks of any kind. Furthermore, I encourage you to notify the proper authorities to investigate the matter if you feel its necessary. Secondly, I must say that I find your email to be somewhat disingenuous given that is has been you, and others who support your campaign, the ones writing personal attacks and untruths about me in the social media outlets and blogs. I would also ask you to refrain from using this venue to communicate campaign related matters. As you know this is my village email address and its to be used only in connection with city business.
