NC laid strong edifice in making JK self-reliant in power, tourism, industrial sectors: Kichloo Says atmosphere of hatred, insecurity cannot bring in development; during my brief tenure as Minister, my office remained open for one & all KISHTWAR, NOV 07: Minister of State for I&C and Home and NC candidate from Kishtwar Assembly constituency Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo today sought people’s support in scripting a bright social and economic future of far-flung regions of the State. Kichloo filed his nomination papers on Wednesday for seeking a third straight term as MLA from Kishtwar constituency. He won the elections to the constituency previously in 2002 and 2008. Kishtwar, along with other 14 remote Assembly constituencies will go to polls on November 25. Kichloo stated that the coalition Government, led by National Conference, has laid a strong edifice for making J&K a self-reliant state in high-priority sectors like power generation, tourism and industrial potential, infrastructure development and road connectivity, taking benefit from a number of Centrally-sponsored schemes. He said that National Conference is not a party that trumpets its achievements in media but believes in achieving its goals silently. The people will give a befitting reply to those who want to belittle the initiatives of the NC regime which led the State to journey of growth, empowerment of youth and economic prosperity. Kichloo, who began his door-to-door campaign, immediately after filing his nomination papers, urged people to unite against those forces who want to pitch one community against another. He stated that as elected representative of Kishtwar constituency for the last 12 years, he has taken everybody along and cared for people of all religions, castes and cultures. During his brief stint as a Minister of State in the coalition government, his doors of offices at Civil Secretariat Jammu and Srinagar remained always open to redress the grievances of general public, he added. The two-time NC MLA asked people to vote intelligently and remain vigilant against forces which coerce and pitch them against one another. “There can be no development in atmosphere of hatred and insecurity. How can anyone think of empowering one community at the cost of alienating another,” he said and added that terrible consequences will be borne by the State if elements thinking on these lines are allowed to succeed. While highlighting the achievements of the Omar Abdullah-led Government, Kichloo stated that Government took several measures to strengthen democratic institutions by bringing in greater transparency in their functioning. The Right to Information Act, Public Services Guarantee Act, establishment of State Vigilance Commission were steps taken to rid the State from the scourge of corruption that had threatened to eat the vital stats of a rich and fertile State like J&K. Kichloo stated that he will continue to work for holistic development of his far-flung constituency, especially focusing on those areas which remain snow-bound for major part of winter which include Marwah, Warwan, Padder and Dacchan. “I worked tirelessly over the last 6 years to improve road connectivity and increased air sorties to these far flung areas. Though a lot of success has been achieved, a lot more remains to be done,” Kichloo said, adding creation of new administrative units which have started functioning will usher in a new era of growth and deliverance of administrative systems to the people residing in these areas. Stating that the youth hold key to development and prosperity of the State, Kichloo stated that they will remain its greatest human resource. “The Government over the last six years created and upgraded the school and higher education sectors in a big way. Degree and Model Degree colleges and schools have been set up or upgraded to facilitate our children in having access to institutes of learning,” he said and added that Government also focused in absorption of these youth in both Government and public sectors. The objective, he said, remained on skill up-gradation to improve their employability in highly competitive Government and private sectors which are growing by leaps and bounds in the country.
