NC lashes out at PDP for abandoning Self Rule Terms Mufti as grandmaster of U-turns, compromises Srinagar : National Conference on Friday lashed out at PDP for abandoning its much marketed Self Rule vision document for political expediency ahead of imminent government formation with the BJP in J&K. PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is Kashmirs grand-master of compromises. In his political career spanning more than five decades, Mufti Sahab has compromised on the interests and sentiments of the people of J&K countless times. So the latest set of compromises Mufti Sahab has made is no surprise, NC Spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu said in a statement issued on Friday from NC Headquarters at Nawa-e-Subha Complex in Srinagar. As a part of successive pliant regimes of G. M. Sadiq, Mir Qasim and Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad, and then as the President of the Congress Party in J&K, Mufti Sayeed has pioneered compromises on almost everything from eroding Article 370 in J&K to invoking AFSPA in J&K as the then Home Minister of India. Mufti Sahab has always lept at the chair at the first whiff of power, even when that meant bartering the interests and sentiments of the people of Kashmir. One begs to ask the question now - What about your self-rule document? With what face will PDP abandon its flagship political slogan and its main political document? We hope someone in the PDP musters the courage to answer, NC Spokesman Junaid Mattu added. The NC Spokesman said on the other hand NCs demand for the Restoration of Internal Autonomy is a principled stand of the party that does not change to please and appease potential allies in New Delhi. We have never so much so sidelined our demand for the Restoration of Internal Autonomy. In 2000, National Conference introduced the Autonomy Resolution in the State Legislative Assembly - which was in turn passed and forwarded to the Government of India. Our commitment to our ideology is unfaltering. Our commitment to the cause of representing the aspirations of our people is beyond politics of power. Our struggle to seek the resolution of the Kashmir Issue is a perennial factor in our politics. PDP - on the contrary - has emerged on the scene as an agency-sponsored political outfit created to fragment the voice of the people of Kashmir, NC Spokesman Junaid Mattu further said. Just like Self-Rule, PDP has compromised on every single slogan it raised to seek votes in the recent Assembly Elections. The party sought votes in the Assembly Elections on the premise of keeping BJP at bay and today PDPs Chief Spokesperson Mr. Naeem Akhtar has the face to say that a PDP-BJP Government would be popular in J&K and that PDP will look for some arrangement with BJP to ensure that PDP and BJP win all Rajya Sabha seats. This is one of the biggest volte faces in the history of J&K Politics. It is evident now that PDP has compromised on its demands of AFSPA revocation, its stand on Article 370 (which was ironically eroded by Mufti Sayeed) and its demand of the resumption of talks between India and Pakistan and between New Delhi and the Hurriyat leadership, NC Spokesman Junaid Mattu said while calling PDP a manifestation of everything repulsive and Machiavellian in politics. The NC Spokesman said National Conference would continue to be the unmistakable voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir that will never bend or compromise for the petty trappings of power.
