NDOW has placed 2 traps in Tahoe Douglas in the last month to capture bears that were after trash in neighborhoods. Heavenly Bear was turned over to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care until sanctuary placement can be arranged. The current Glenbrook Bear is being given on site aversion. In both cases, Tahoe Douglas residents were in violation of county ordinances by making trash available. There is not money enough to enforce ordinances resulting in NDOW budgets being strained and bears paying dearly. Can each person reading this take it upon yourself to educate neighbors and if necessary call code enforcement for your jurisdiction and report violators. Bear advocacy starts with each of us and is on going.
