NDUKWE IS THE MAN… The law-making function is one of the essential pillars of any society. No human society survives in the total absence of laws. It is therefore important to have great minds make laws that will help build the society. And, when the usual run of rulers proves cowardly, indecisive or discredited, turning to the wisdom and expertise of technocrats are particularly tempting. It helps particularly when there is a merger of the political and expert components of the governing system. That is why it is very heart warming that Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, best known for midwifing a new era of development in the ICT industry in Nigeria has opted for active politics. Feelers indicated that Ndukwe, the “Father of Modern Telecommunications” in Nigeria would be running for a seat in the Senate. The Senate, over the years, has emerged as an essential organ and a stabilizing factor of the federation. Ndukwe seeks to contest for the Senate seat of Anambra South Senatorial zone under All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). A telecom engineer of note and the former executive vice-chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC), Ndukwe is one of the best advertisements of democracy and ultimate source of political legitimacy for Nigeria’s democratic dispensation. Known for doing ordinary things in an extra ordinary manner, Ndukwe is a revolutionary who is credited for the tremendous growth and transformation of the NCC under his watch, earning in the process a reputation as a transparent and open agency that delivered on its mandate. He is an asset to Nigeria, because the corporate executive and public servant with over 35 years is one of the most sought after resources persons in international events. And on special invitation, Ndukwe, has served as adviser to a few countries in Africa on Telecom Policy and Regulation. He is also a teacher and author of several papers on Telecommunications Regulation and Sector Policy as well as currently serves as member of the National Job Creation Committee and on the board of a number of companies including Openmedia Ltd and Electromechanica Nigeria Ltd. He is a recipient of several educational and civic awards including four Honorary Doctorate degrees and the national Honours of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR). His election will boost the National Assembly, the highest elective law making body of Nigeria, vested with the power to make laws for the peace, order and good governance of the Federation.
