NEARER, STILL NEARER Did anyone miss my devotional yesterday? Did you even notice that I hadnt posted one? I wonder at times if anybody even reads these aside from my mother and the occasional friend. But I dont write these thoughts to be noticed or praised; I write them because I feel impressed by the Holy Spirit to take my morning song, that God places on my heart when I awaken in the morning, and write a message to uplift the readers, however few they may be! In the writing and searching for verses, I find that I grow spiritually, as well as (hopefully) blessing others. Spiritual growth is what each of us should desire. The moment we settle for our current state, we stop spending time with the Lord, we start feeling happy with whatever knowledge weve gained up to that point. Too often, we just dont want to disturb the status quo with possible revision of the way we look at our relationship with the Savior. But one of the statements, used in the Bible, about various prophets and about Jesus was that they, increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. (Luke 2:52 KJV). Even Jesus had to grow in His relationship with the Father. Accepting Jesus as your Savior, and asking Him into your heart, is only the first step in building your relationship. That is called consecration, where you turn your life over to Him. But the longer part of the process, called sanctification, is where you study and learn more about the Savior, how He lived His perfect life while walking this earth, and asking Him to help you to follow His example. You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11 NKJV). Following Jesus example will only serve to draw us closer to Him; as we grow in faith, we see our relationship with Him strengthen, and isnt that the ultimate goal of the Christian walk? Isaiah spoke of the phenomenon where when we draw close to the Lord, we have an unconscious communication with Him as we go through our daily activities: Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,”. Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left. (Isaiah 30:21 NKJV). My Jeanne
