NEARERS AND DEARERS (for dear friends long since hidden in deaths dateless night) They are silent eyes and ears, That have seen and heard of, The beauty that perhaps was with me, But never was mine. My good ones are now shrouded in darkness, The best i have lost in a nightmarish dream, With an indelible happiness on their faces, That perhaps was only a reflection of mine own. Remaining about them are lingering elements of a false dream, And faces curved on ancient chapter, Memories that perhaps were mine, Whose beginning and end were with me. They are now lain down to stilness and silence, Silent in their passion-eloquent in their silence, A passionate eloquent silence, That perhaps begins but never ends with me.
