NEGOTIATIONS AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN ON THE CREATION OF THE LAPIS LAZULI TRANSPORT CORRIDOR “AFGHANISTAN-TURKMENISTAN-AZERBAIJAN-GEORGIA-TURKEY” On November 15, 2014 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs there was the five-sided meeting on discussions of the draft Agreement of transport transit corridor Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey, where the delegations of the above-mentioned countries took part. As is known, Turkmenistan is the active supporter of diversification of transport routes as an integral condition for development of large-scale international cooperation. The bright evidence to it is the high-level conference on role of transport and transit corridors held in Ashgabat where within the framework of the conference the first session of the given project was held. The sides noted the importance of this project that aimed at providing the new access opportunities to the country-participants and other countries of the region to world markets that also urged to boost the trade-economic relations in Eurasian space. At the meeting the participants also noted that the project will contribute to the socio-economic revival of Afghanistan and its joining to the large-scale regional and international infrastructure projects. The experts of the countries-participants believe that this initiative is timely and will contribute to the further progress and prosperity of each of the countries in the region by expanding the volumes of total trade-turnover and reduce the cost of transit cargo. During the negotiations, the sides discussed the issues of further cooperation between the countries on principles of equality, mutual benefit and respect, deepening of cooperation in political, trade, economic and humanitarian spheres that are of mutual interest.
