NEIGHBORHOOD ADOPT-A-LOT PROGRAM: Many vacant lots in the Central Ward are used as dumping grounds for companies and community members, and ultimately are an eye-sore in the neighborhood. While the goal is to have these lots developed into housing or retail, the reality is that because of the economic downturn many of them will stay unused for quite some time. The Central Ward has partnered with The Greater Newark Conservancy and local residents to transform these empty lots into beautiful gardens and pocket parks for the residents in the immediate surrounding area to enjoy its use for recreational purposes. There are over 100 lots in the Central Ward that we seek to become a part of this program.
