NELSON MANDELA BAY LOAD-SHEDDING Dear Residents The Nelson - TopicsExpress

NELSON MANDELA BAY LOAD-SHEDDING Dear Residents The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has developed a load-shedding schedule that minimises the effect that load-shedding would have on communities, in addition to ensuring a fair distribution among all communities. It is important to note: 1. Eskom, not the Municipality, announces loadshedding, depending on supply vs demand at any given time. 2. The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is unable to predict with any certainty as to when Eskom will announce load-shedding. We are normally given between a half-an-hour and five-minute lead time. 3. The NMBM has proactively worked out a schedule, should Eskom announce loadshedding. 3.1. This schedule is available on the home page of our website nelsonmandelabay.gov.za 3.2. The schedule makes provision for either Stage 1 or 2 or 3 or 4. 3.4. The schedule is worked out on a weekly basis, and is uploaded in that manner on the website for user-friendliness. 3.4. The current weekly schedules are worked out up to and including Sunday, 29 March 2015. 3.5. Each schedule must be read in conjunction with the Group schedule, which is also on the website. 4. Each Group is equitably distributed so as to make the load-shedding schedule as fair as possible across days and time cycles. Stage 1 follows an eight-day cycle, while Stages 2, 3 and 4 follow a 4-day cycle. 5. There may be times when Eskom will announce a change in Stage during the day - in such cases we will apply the relevant schedule as per that particular Stage of load-shedding. 6. The current schedules are updated from 2014. 6.1. In order to lessen the times of general load-shedding per Group within a time-cycle, we have added a group called Geysers. During the stipulated times as per the respective schedules, we will switch off all geysers which will result in a lesser energy/electricity demand. 6.2. Residents in the Gelvandale and surrounding areas should note that: + Gelvan Park, Parkside, Springdale and the section of Gelvandale that is adjacent to Springdale are fed from our Northdowns substation (near Algoa Park) and are consequently part of Group 8. + The rest of Gelvandale and Helenvale are fed from the Malabar substation and are therefore within Group 4. 7. We have sincere and genuine empathy for all our residents. We understand about refrigerators, babies’ bottles and small businesses. Indeed, we are all (Councillors and officials of the NMBM and residents and stakeholders) equally affected and frustrated by load-shedding. It is NOT in the interests of the Municipality to make and/or keep our customers and residents unhappy. We are doing our best under extremely difficult circumstances. 8.1. Major industries are not affected by load-shedding. This is simply to ensure that our trade competitiveness as a region is secured, and thus ensure economic growth and development. 8.2. Hospitals are not switched off. 8.3. The PE Airport is also not affected by load-shedding. 9. During load-shedding, we appeal to all residents to switch off your geysers and pool-pumps, and of course to use electricity as sparingly as possible. 10. We endeavour to constantly keep our residents informed of the loadshedding situation through various media platforms. In this regard, we are extremely grateful to the various newspapers and radio and TV stations for readily availing their respective platforms to keep our residents informed. We trust that this clarifies and explains the NMBM schedule. Should you require any additional information and/or clarification in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact me. We thank all residents for your cooperation in this regard. Together moving South Africa forward!
