NEMO St. Vincent and the Grenadines NEWS RELEASE, 7TH JULY 2013, 11PM ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES ON A TROPICAL STORM WATCH At 11PM a Tropical Storm WATCH has been issued for St. Vincent and the Grenadines as Tropical Storm Chantal has formed in the Atlantic. At 1100PM the centre of Tropical Storm Chantal was located near latitude 9.8 North…Longitude 47.2 West. Chantal is moving toward the West near 26 MPH…43 KM/H… and this rapid westward or West- northwesward motion is expected during the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the centre of Chantal should approach the Lesser Antilles late Monday night or early Tuesday and move into the Eastern Caribbean sea on Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 40MPH…65KM /H with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Tropical Storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles….95KM from the centre. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1008MB…29.77 inches A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible somewhere in the watch area…in this case within 24 hours. All residents are urged to activate their disaster response plans and to heighten preparation for the possibility of adverse impact by this weather system. Once again, St. Vincent and the Grenadines is under a Tropical Storm Watch. Residents should be prepared to act quickly as the storm watch may be upgraded to a storm warning at short notice.
