NEPOTISM;BANE OF IMO DEVELOPMENT. One of the universally accepted objections to the practice of Nepotism is that it exposes the citizens to unfair treatment and social injustice. Ever since the inception of the present democratic dispensation, Imo state has displayed a consistent inclination to opt for mediocrity, nepotism and compromise- always picking a third eleven to play for us, resultantly, we have failed and will continue to fail in making it to UHURU Imo is one place where itll be difficult to point to one important job held by the most competent person we have- I stand to be corrected! As a result, look at our collapsing public utilities, our inefficient and wasteful parastatals and state owned companies. If you want electricity, you buy your own generator. If you want water, you sink your own bore-hole, if you need security, you form your own vigilante group. One day soon, youll have to construct your own road to travel. My point in all these? On a closer look at the list of commissioners recently released by the state governor some startling observations will be made; the reappointment of Ichie Best Mbanaso- Owelles kinsman, Uche Nwaosu, his in-law,Kenneth Emelu his cousin et al points only to one direction»nepotism Less conspicuous but not less damaging is the fact that while an irrelevant ministry of tertiary education was created and furnished with a commissioner, the more vital and all important ministry of agriculture was left without a commissioner- incredible! Perhaps, just perhaps its true, the speculation in some quaters that the post of Agriculture commissioner was delibrately left vacant as an exclusive reserve of the Governors most trusted ally since he is anticipating the sourcing of the N1billion CBN loan and the fertilizer booty. Imolites are a highly intellectual people who may tolerate a number of administrative misnomer but will not allow our sensibilities to be insulted...this government has squandered the goodwill of 2011 and like a provoked dog ready for attack, we await 2015.
