NERD NEWS NOW!!! Well The New York Comic-con has come and gone, - TopicsExpress

NERD NEWS NOW!!! Well The New York Comic-con has come and gone, but the news from the convention is far from over. That coupled with some big news released throughout this week means that this will be another Giant Sized edition. So lets get started! In what is most likely the biggest news of the week, Warner Bros has released a full listing of the DC movies that we can expect to see over the next 6 years, 10 titles in total!! Everyone already knows about the first title, Batman V. Superman in 2016, but following that one in the same year will be The Suicide Squad. Next up in 2017 we have Wonder Woman and Justice League: Part 1. 2018 will mark the release of The Flash and Aquaman. 2019 is Shazam and Justice League: Part 2. And finally in 2020 we get Cyborg and Green Lantern. Now there are some interesting things to note here. First of all the Suicide Squad is made up of super villians working for the government. so how is Suicide Squad going to tie in to the other movies when DC hasnt really established any villains other than Zod? My guess is this movie may not tie in with the other DC titles. Next up further confirmation that the DC movies wont be linked with the DC shows Arrow and Flash, as WB announced the movie Flash will be played by a different actor. I find this a shame as the Flash show is already amazing, and now we risk multiple versions of different characters in different media. Im also going to go out on a limb here and say that the Green Lantern movie wont be the return of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, not after the last terrible GL movie. Id guess that well be getting a new Green Lantern, my money is on Jon Stewart. And finally a Cyborg movie? Not that I dont like the character but he always seems to work better in team comics then he does solo, but I guess well just have to see. Source: ign/articles/2014/10/15/warner-bros-unveils-full-dc-movies-slate-through-2020?watch=true I have mixed feelings on the weird DLC nature of the current Killer Instinct game, but man do they know how to make a trailer. The trailer for season 2 of KI is here, bringing with it some familiar faces like TJ Combo and Maya. Were also teased with some shadowy images of other characters yet to be announced, but one thing is for certain at least two of those shadowy figures are Cinder and Riptor! I cant wait to see what other new and old characters are announced. Source: ign/videos/2014/10/14/killer-instinct-season-2-launch-trailer There were several interesting announcements on the TV front this week as well. It would seem that both Resident Evil and The Mortal Instruments have TV shows in the works. The Resident Evil series is supposed to start once the 6th and final film releases, but no one is sure if it will all tie together. The Mortal Instruments was going to be a series of movies but after the first movie failed to perform well it looks like that idea might be scrapped in favor of a show. Another big surprise was the announcement of an Underworld TV series along with at least 2 more Underworld movies being in the works. Last week I posted an article about Robert Downey Jr. possibly confirming an Iron Man 4 movie being in the works, And while thats not off the table it seems well be seeing Tony Stark in the next Captain America movie. Rumor has it this movie will begin a plot similar to the event in the comics known as Civil War. Where the US government demands that the heroes reveal their identitys and join the US government officially where they will be regulated properly. This of course doesnt sit well with many heroes, causing Cap to form a resistance and Tony leading the pro government side. This could cause a huge shake up in the movies, changing the entire tone of things to come. Rumor has it that Captain America 3 will either be called Fallen Son or Civil War. Source: ign/articles/2014/10/14/robert-downey-jr-will-be-in-captain-america-3 This isnt so much news as it is just pure awesome. A Minecraft modder Killerx20 has been working for 2 years to bring Midgar, the central city in Final Fantasy 7 to life, and it is amazing!! I dont play Minecraft myself but I wish I did, just so I could explore this awesome piece of work. Source: sourcefed/modder-spends-two-years-building-midgar-in-minecraft/ It looks like the upcoming movie based in the Harry Potter universe, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is going to be a trilogy after all. The series of movies have been announced for a 2016, 2018 and 2020 release window. The movies are set in 1920 quite a long time before the first Harry Potter movie and will follow famous Magizoologist Newt Scamander. Source: ign/articles/2014/10/15/fantastic-beasts-and-where-to-find-them-will-be-a-trilogy Tieing back into the earlier DC news it seems we may also know who the main villian for the Justice League movie will be. At the moment it looks like Brainiac will be the central villain, which makes sense, it has to be someone powerful obviously but a character like Darkseid needs to much setup. Where as Brainiac ties nicely into Supermans past and the planet Krypton. It also looks like there are some casting rumors and ideas for the team members in the Suicide Squad movie. The team is rumored to consist of Multiplex, Captain Boomerang,Vixen, Jaculi, Deadshot, Blockbuster and Mindboggler. Sadly Harley Quinn doesnt look like shell make the cut, but in the comics shes still a relatively new member Those of you who watch Arrow and Flash should be familiar with Multiplex and Deadshot. As for those casting rumors it seems Will Smith, Ryan Gosling, Tom Hardy, and Margot Robbie for unspecified roles on the team. After her roles as Black Widow in Marvel and her newest movie Lucy proving shes a natural for female led action movies its little surprise that shes been offered the role. The question is, even with her in it, will a live action adaptation of such a classic series actually work? Source: ign/articles/2014/10/17/scarlett-johansson-is-up-for-ghost-in-the-shell A new trailer was released this week for Assassins Creed:Rogue. Giving us a new look at the story and what could lead the games main character to leave the Assassins and join with their enemy the Templars, agreeing to kill his former friends in the process. Its a great trailer with some truly dark undertones, the kind of thing I come to expect from this franchise. Source: ign/videos/2014/10/13/assassins-creed-rogue-story-trailer-2 Another new series based off of comics will soon be airing, but this one is going to be a bit different. Powers will be airing exclusive on the PlayStation Network, with the entire season being free to watch if your a PlayStation Plus member. The series follows a pair of detectives working in a world where heroes and villains are real. Their cases however revolve around crimes involving these super powered beings, one of them however used to how powers of his own and must now adjust to being a normal human dealing with the mess that other Powers leave behind. The series si also going to be a hard R rating, meaning its going to be a graphic, violent take on the super hero world. You can see the trailer for the series here. Source: ign/articles/2014/10/12/nycc-watch-the-first-trailer-for-powers Pacific Rim 2 is already slated for an April 7th, 2017 release date but it comes as no surprise that a third film is already being planned by the films director Guillermo del Toro. And while it sounds like the cast from the first movie will be returning they may not all be in the same movies, some may return for the 3rd installment instead. Heavensward promises a new race, an increased level cap of 60, new areas and dungeons, new jobs and the ability for guilds to make their own Airships. Jem and the Holograms has a release date of October 23rd, 2015. Almost exactly a year away! As Ive reported on before the casting for this movie has been truly unique, as the director actually took fan feedback over twitter and requested fans to actual submit their own auditions. I have no idea how well the premise of the series will transfer to the big screen but Im remaining optimistic. Source: ign/articles/2014/10/17/jem-and-the-holograms-to-release-in-october-2015 In some sad comic book news, it looks like Marvel is canceling The Fantastic Four. This has been a rumor for months now but has been confirmed at the end of the NYCC this week. The two biggest rumors why this are happening is the very low sales of the books over the last few years, or the fact that Marvel is trying to hurt Foxs upcoming Fantastic Four movie, by removing the characters from comics for awhile. Whatever the reason this surely wont be the last we see of Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Thing or the Human Torch. Odds are this will just be a hiatus for the book and well see the characters in other Marvel titles, just not all together. Source: ign/articles/2014/10/12/nycc-marvel-cancels-fantastic-four-comic In more Marvel news it looks like Collin Farrell, Ryan Gosling, Keanu Reeves, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jared Leto, Oscar Isaac and Justin Theroux are all names being thrown around for the role of Doctor Strange in the upcoming movie. Me personally I would say either Collin Farrell or Benedict Cumberbatch. But who knows who will take the role at this point. Source: ign/articles/2014/10/18/colin-farrell-keanu-reeves-and-benedict-cumberbatch-reportedly-up-for-doctor-strange Source: ign/articles/2014/10/16/ryan-gosling-also-up-for-doctor-strange And this weeks final story is one more bit of Marvel news. Wolverine is dead. Of course Marvel was advertising this for months so no one was surprised, but hes dead, supposedly the whole thing was kind of a let down even if it was a heroic act. And in case your wondering he can die now because he lost his healing ability. But hes dead, the question is for how long? We all know this is comics and unless the character is named after a box of rice they can come back from the dead sooner or later. Source: NONE its a fact, but for how long? And with that we bring the news to a close for this week. I hope you all enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! See everyone next week!! Rob.
