NEVER MESS WITH MERCY. Galatians 5:3-6 I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. Politics is an interesting cat and mouse game. In the early years of president Shagaris administration the party in power in Eastern Nigeria was the Nigeria Peoples Party or NPP. Governor Jim Nwaobodo ruled the old Anambra state. His deputy was chief Roy Umenyi. A high court judge invited the Deputy Governor to appear before him. This request was turned down. A contempt case was filed and a conviction followed. As an executive officer of the state, he cannot function with such a sentence hanging on him . To avert the constitutional crisis, the Governor had to invoke his right to grant prerogative of mercy and pardoned his deputy. I find the struggle between law and grace as intriguing as in the above case. We all carry baggages of sins from our mothers womb. You dont search far to see it peeping out from the secret corners of our lives to tell the world that it is there. With its guilt and shame we feel trapped and helpless beyond measure. This is the turf the law cherishes to play in. It breaks your resolve and taunts you with your broken dreams and checkered destiny. Without divine help you are finished. Then grace steps in. Picks you from the garbage can, cleanses and changes you. Grace quashes your conviction and trashes your guilt. The pains and failures are evacuated and you emerge from the prison of shame quite radiant. Prerogative of mercy goes to the root of the offence and pulls it out . It leaves your slate clean and white . You stand before the law innocent as though you never committed the offence. Grace does much more than cleanse your past. It empowers your future. You stand before the court of heaven and hell JUSTIFIED. Simply put ....just as if you have never sinned. With shoulders up and high praise in your mouth, you sing freely and openly to the consternation of the enemy whose claws have been broken. Grace does this simply because the governor of the universe sent his son in this season to serve a prerogative of mercy on humanity...that is if you truly believe. Tghchurch.blogspot.
