NEVER SAY DIE What an epic weekend for runners! I cant recall a time when there has been so much anticipation & excitement present in the air before, largely due to the fact that there was a back-to-back of two very popular running events. Many saved all their energy for the prestigious 35k strong field KL marathon on Saturday morning. A few ran both. Whichever the case, most runners enjoyed their achievements & experiences. For those few runners who were left disappointed, or failed to meet their expectations, let me share with you my thoughts on this. What I would do if I was in this situation:- 1) Take a shortbreak from running (minimum 7-14 days) & during such time dont think about anything to do with running, instead go swimming, ride a bike, workout a sweat at your favourite gym. 2) Give alittle time for the physical & mental wounds to heal before making any rash decision. 3) Ask yourself, why you took-up running in the first place; what motivated you to run initially; what about running & your past running experiences which made you happy. 4) Take this opportunity to re-assess your future running ambitions. Is it time to to change your running mantra and/or goals? Do you need a fresh set of motivational spark to inspire you? 5) Take note of all that you have gained from your running experiences todate, and appreciate them: Youll be surprise how youve changed for the better since you started running. Dont make the mistake of throwing the baby with the bath water! 6) Write down all your thoughts, good & bad, on a piece of paper as this will help you with your thinking process. Sometimes, what you think is important, in your mind, does not seem so important anymore when you see it written down. 7) Since day one of running, my motivation to run is always to uphold the 3 Fs - Fitness, Friendship & Fun. Along the way, if I can motivate or inspire my family, friends and strangers, even BETTER! 8) Yes, if the day comes when running no longer gives me happiness, then Ill take-up something else - Life is much more than running only. In the meantime, I know that when you do anything with dedication & passion, there will invariably be times when your spirits are broken, egos bruised, mojo gone AWOL. Frankly, I wouldnt have it any other way...for now. 9) Last and most important, I would never forget my loving wife, family & amazing friends who makes my successes & failures ever more meaningful. #comebackstronger #rununtilyoucannotrunanymore
