NEW APPROVED SCHOOLS IN IBUSA: LATEST REPORTS Two of the new schools approved for Ibusa by the Delta State government have commenced academic activities. Owing to the despicable nature of the old buildings of Anioshe Primary School where they were initially assigned to commence temporarily, they could not begin as they were later re-ordered to start at Omu Boys Primary School for the commencement of Omu Boys Secondary School and Umejei Primary School for Ibusa Mixed Secondary School. This is because they have facilities that can accommodate additional schools, hence the take-off of these new schools. On an unscheduled visit by Mr. Peter Okonji (ICDU, UK) and Philip Ifechukwude (Concerned Ibusa Citizen), it was observed that take-off grant which was supposed to accompany the new schools from the state government was not given because they began later than scheduled. The schools have to take-off this year because of the pressure mounted by Ibusa indigenes, we were meant to understand. However, it is recorded that out of the ten new schools approved to commence in the 2013/2014 academic calendar by the Delta State government, three of them came to Ibusa, they also told us. Mr. Isitua, the former principal of St. Patrick College, Asaba, now the principal of Omu Boys Secondary School, Ibusa was surprised to learn that the school had been in existence before this re-establishment. He told us that twelve teachers were posted to the school including him and the vice principal. He equally stressed that they have commenced full operation as we were shown. Due to the need to build an effective foundation from the basis, he had opted to start from JSS 1, even as some fresh students have been admitted, though few. They occupied the five-classes building of the constituency project built by Hon. (Barr.) Princess Pat Ajudua. He explained that admission was slow because most students come and go when they see that they were no chairs and tables to write on. The few in the school now have to make arrangement for their own desks. He made a passionate appeal to good-spirited individuals in Ibusa to assist in ensuring the smooth take-off of the school by providing some basic amenities like pieces of furniture for students, chairs and tables for the staff, files, bells, clocks, textbooks for teachers, charts (Atlas), other teaching aids, computers, toilets, etc. Similarly, Mrs. Otiono-Buzugbe, the principal of Ibusa Mixed Secondary School made the same appeal. As a matter of fact, it was a despicable sight to see the teachers of both schools hanging around with inadequate chairs to sit on. Most of the ones, they are using are borrowed from the students. Not enough information can be deduced on the third school given to Ibusa – Akwue Secondary School. But information from the grapevine has it that illustrious sons of Ogboli are not losing sleep over their baby. Dearest Ibusans, please let us join hands to ensure that these babies on our hands are nurtured at this cradle stage until they are mature. More so, there is need to spread the schools to enhance the future development of Ibusa. The Delta State government as a matter of urgency needs survey plans of proposed permanent sites to begin the siting as soon as possible. Whatever we can do to make this work instead playing unhealthy politics again, let us do. The government of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan are busy building state-of-the-art edifice in schools presently. We are not forbidden to have one in our domain. We have clamoured for this educational improvement, now that we have it, please let us make it work.
