NEW BLOG from @mallyzn says SWITCH ON YOUR LIGHT “Don’t ask what your government will do for you but what can you do for your government.” John F. Kennedy I have noticed that we have very intellectual young leaders and I just wish to share what you can do to make a rock-hard influence and stop being dependent. My name is Malibongwe Xaba, From Durban. I am part of the Leadership 2020 movement. I am sure you wondering how I did it these guys are in Johannesburg and am in Durban. Here is my simple secret: 2006 I developed a passion for youth empowerment and I started working at my church, I was just 20 years old and I was a Youth Leader. I started shining in my corner, in 2009 I travelled all over South Africa including Lesotho and Swaziland. I realised that when I do what I love and shine in my small corner someone is bound to see my inspiration and use me. Don’t rush to be part of a huge organisation but work on shining in your corner. In 2010 I became a Youth Coordinator for Mid-KZN (The Salvation Army), now that’s huge for me because I am from a disadvantaged community, I was working in my corner but someone was watching my influence with the youth. 2011-2013 I was involved with William Booth Boys Hostel where I got one of my greatest achievement with Mathunjwa High School Matric students from 93, 8% 2011 to 100% in 2013 pass rate. I “shine bright like a diamond in the sky” Rihanna, Diamond Lyrics. I Published a book titled ‘All things are possible’… Eight years later I can then go to any organisation tell them about my passion for youth empowerment and let my track record speak for itself. That how Nicolas Regisford- Leadership 2020 CEO got hold of me, he saw my passion and realised that the size of my vision is way more important than the size of my current bank balance. I am currently working on my next book titled ‘Born to leave a legacy’ and been selected as a suitable representative of my country and generation for the One Young World Summit in Dublin, Ireland, 15 - 19 October 2014. When leaving a legacy you just in to put on a light in your corner and the rest will see your impact and will join you. Imagine if you were in a dark room with a lot of people in the room and you the only one that had a lighter and a candle and all the others in the room only had candles. When you switch on the candle everyone in the room will see where the light is and will come and light their candles remember that when making an impact in life it may not take a minute, hour, day or maybe a year but it will take you being consistent in what you do. I have spent 8 years which is 2920 days, which is 70 080 hours working on lighting my corner so don’t give up just switch on your light. Kind Regards Malibongwe Xaba Author, Leadership 2020 blogger, Professional Speaker, Facilitator & YBF Brand Ambassador
