NEW BOM RAIN FORECASTS As many of you would have heard on the news, the Bureau has made a change this month to the way they write their rainfall forecasts Australia-wide. From now on we wont get forecasts of isolated showers, we will actually get a percentage chance forecast of showers, etc. occurring. Which I believe is a great improvement. The official BOM forecast for Mackay for tomorrow demonstrates the new forecast terminology. Partly cloudy. Slight (30%) chance of a shower, most likely in the morning and afternoon. Winds easterly 15 to 20 km/h becoming light before dawn then becoming easterly 15 to 20 km/h in the morning. They have also changed their thunderstorm forecasts to now say either chance of a thunderstorm or thunderstorm likely. The new system shows a 30% chance of a shower for Mackay for Friday, a 30% chance for Tuesday and a 50% chance for Wednesday.
