NEW CP GIRL REENIE NEEDS OUR HELP We all know how brave and stoic Cairns are. We also know there is very little that can keep a Cairn down. Their threshold for enduring pain and adversity is amazing, but their zest for life, no matter what, is PRICELESS! Reenie came in as part of Bonnies Bunch. She spent her life, all nine years of it, giving and sacrificing of her own health and well-being, to produce happy and healthy puppies from her tiny, 12 pound body. Last week became time for Reenie to be spoiled and cared for once she became part of the CP family. Unfortunately, Reenies journey to becoming a happy and healthy Cairn Princess has encountered a couple of bumps in the road. Reenies spay surgery also discovered a mammary tumor which was removed and sent out for biopsy. Her dental revealed a nasty, neglected, infected mouth full of already missing teeth and the remaining teeth were all rotten and ended up being extracted. Tough luck for this shy little beauty. But Reenie has yet another bump in the road ahead of her ... Reenie apparently injured her leg several years ago. She was taken to a vet where It was determined that it wasnt broken, and no further treatment was sought. Fast forward several years, and Reenie is now being examined by our vet and two orthopedic surgeons. Unfortunately, while her leg was not broken, she had torn her Achilles tendon in her left rear leg. Reenie does not use this leg any longer, it is not weight bearing, and she simply holds it up and drags it around with her. Because of the length of time between the injury and now, surgery to repair the Achilles Tendon would not produce more than 25% use again maximum and would be a long, tedious and painful recovery period for Reenie and her foster home. The decision has been made to amputate Reenies left rear leg. The amputation surgery is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Wednesday. Our wonderful vet will personally drive Reenie over to the specialty clinic where the orthopedic surgery will take place. Following surgery, when Reenie is able to leave, once again our wonderful vet will personally go to pick-up Reenie and will take her home with her for the night to be closely monitored and receive lots of TLC. Ive attached two pictures of Reenie just taken today. One shows Reenie enjoying the outside yard at the vet and the other shows how Reenie holds her rear left leg up Please keep Reenie, the surgeon and our vet in your thoughts tomorrow for a successful outcome. I will let you know when the surgery is completed and Reenie is in recovery. Thank you Col.
