The ACTRA National Women’s Committee will hold all rights to the script. PREAMBLE: ACTRA is seeking to further its work in companionship with the TAWC Video “Get Women Working” https://youtube/watch?v=YmsJ_vTGhEk and the ongoing work from the CUES committee, as reported in June 2012 cueonscreen.ca/. To that end, we are in the early stages of development to produce a short 3-7 minute film for internet distribution. We wish to activate, improve, and expand the representations of women on both sides of the lens, reaching out to audiences hungry to see themselves, and our world, reflected back to us. THE TONE: To showcase the need for active improvement regarding the imbalance of women working in all walks of our industry, in front and behind the camera; should break the formulaic representations of women; should offer both facts and story; should offer actions that can make a difference; should make it relevant to audiences and not exclusively for women, and should have great comedic flare. Some key points to include/address: * The hunger to see real women’s lives reflected back to ourselves * It must be inclusive: gender; age, cultural and physical diversity, etc. * Use of stats: facts are hard to disavow and are an opportunity to highlight/emphasize * Importance of inspiring role models through this video * Inspiring female characters based on real life and expanding out from the stereotypical female role models that currently dominate traditional film & TV * Maintaining an attitude of hope, action, productivity, and inspiration * A sense of humour is essential * Audience should feel called to action, inspiring critical thinking and conscious consumerism YOUR PITCH should include: a premise/concept in a one pager, and a treatment script. Short listed submissions will receive an interview scheduled in the latter half of January.
