NEW ENVOYS FROM PAKISTAN AND THAILAND PRESENT THEIR CREDENTIALS This afternoon H.E. the President, Lt. General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, was presented with the credentials, letters of credence, from the incoming non-resident diplomatic representatives of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Kingdom of Thailand. Speaking to the media following the ceremony the High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E. Najm Us Saqib said that he was eager to build upon the longstanding good relations that exist between his country and Botswana, which are rooted in their common membership in multilateral organisations such as the Commonwealth and UN as well as bilateral cooperation. He said it would be his priority to promote greater trade and investment between the two countries in such areas as agriculture. The High Commissioner further noted that areas of existing bilateral cooperation, which he was eager to expand, include education and human resource development, more especially training and support in the Maths and Sciences fields. For his part Ambassador Voradet Viravakin noted that Botswana had a favourable trade balance with Thailand as his country imported diamonds and legitimate natural products. He also stated that cooperation in human resource development and trade could be intensified. In recent years Thailand has been held up a a benchmark in terms of the relative success of its poverty eradication efforts. It has also partnered with Botswana and other countries in fighting the scourge of poaching.
