NEW GROUP TO EASE STRAIN OF ADDICTION A new group will start in Warrnambool early next month to help women who have substance abuse issues. The Women Helping Women In Recovery group will start on February 4 at the Archie Graham Centre in Timor Street and will run for six weeks. Senior 4Cs clinician with The Right Path project team, Kayleigh Walmsley-Sims, based at the WRAD Centre in Warrnambool, said the group was about women supporting each other in their recovery and journey to a healthier lifestyle. “A lot of women who have had issues with substance use or mental health issues related to substance abuse can feel very isolated,” Ms Walmsley-Sims said. “This is an opportunity to meet new people and to help normalise things in their lives.” At the group meetings from 1-3pm Tuesdays, members tell stories, engage in team building activities, provide support and understanding and share ideas. “It will help women to set goals, build their self -esteem, relax and work on positive life strategies,” Ms Walmsley-Sims said. “Addiction can be a complicated process but every little step and bit of support helps and it gets easier as you practice your skills and work through it with the support of other like-minded women in a group setting.the women’s group.” Each week we will cover a topic to help you learn techniques and tools to help guide you through the process of recovery through education, self-awareness and stress management. Women interested in participating in the group can contact Ms Walmsley-Sims on 1300 009 723 The group is free to join.
