NEW Green Waste bins for every household Council, through its - TopicsExpress

NEW Green Waste bins for every household Council, through its waste collection contractor Veolia, is delivering a NEW green waste bin to every property. This will make all three bins now the property of Port Augusta City Council. When the three-bin system was rolled out seven years ago, all properties were provided with a 140 litre red lidded bin for household waste and a 240 litre yellow lidded bin for recyclables. At the time, residents were able to use their existing green 240 litre bins for green waste. While Port Augusta City Council (PACC) maintains the ownership of the red and yellow lidded bins, and has a contract with Veolia to not only collect but also repair and replace them, this is not the case for the green bin. In the past couple of years, the much older green bins have started to fail. The cost to replace these has been borne by the resident, even though they have been sourced at a reduced rate. Council recognises this is an increasing issue and it impacts on the reliability of the service, and is addressing the issue by supplying all households with a new green waste bin, making the ownership and replacement of bins uniform. All property owners and residents will receive a letter prior to the rollout of the new 240litre PACC-owned bins by Veolia, which is anticipated to occur later next month (dates are yet to be finalised). Like the red lidded and yellow lidded bins, these bins display a discrete number and are registered against the property. On completion of the new green bin roll out, Veolia will only collect green waste placed in the new Council-registered bins. Once you have received your new green bin, please ensure you use it for green waste. The old, unregistered bins will no longer be collected and remain with the property owner for their own use. Not sure what to do with your old green bin? Heres some suggestions: • Convert to a composting bin • Store timber off cuts • Store pool toys, including foam noodles • Temporary storage of excess green waste until the next collection round when the excess can be disposed off via the new green bin. • Store horse food or large quantities of dry dog food • Worm farm • Store sport equipment • Drink can bin, easy to take to the bottle and can recycling depot PACC looks forward to providing residents with the new 240L green waste bin, and continuing the very successful three-bin rubbish collection enjoyed by residents in Port Augusta.
