NEW HARTFORD / AVON – Peter M. Place Peter M. Place, 83, formerly of New Hartford and Avon, passed away peacefully on Sat. Jan. 25, 2014 at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center, Torrington. He was born in Hamilton, Bermuda, the son of Charles I. and Elizabeth M. Place, and graduated from Gilbert High School in Winsted, CT. He served in the Air Force as a Systems Analyst during the Korean War, and then received his B.S. degree from the University of Connecticut in 1958. He worked as a corporate systems manager for Ingraham Industries in Bristol, then joined Connecticut Bank and Trust in 1968 as the systems and programming manager of the Computer Automated Services Department. He worked at CBT Data Services for many years and subsequently retired from New England Information Services. His brother Bill Place and sisters Merry Toomey, Lois DiCara and Barbara Place predeceased him. He was predeceased by his wife Joan Sproule Place in 1996 after 40 years of marriage. He will be dearly missed by his children, Nancy, her husband Roger Gallic and daughters Liz and Amy of Tolland; Charles, his wife Janice Place and their children Emma, Marty and Patrick of New Hartford; Susan, her husband Gary Giordano and their daughters Grace and Lucy; Margaret, her husband Todd Grebleski and their daughters Sarah and Carlyn of Horseheads, NY. His friends and many nieces and nephews will also miss him. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his kind and generous heart. He enjoyed spending time with his family, taking care of his vegetable garden and fruit trees, photography and travel. He was a life-long NY Giants fan. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday Jan. 29, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, 93 River Rd., Barkhamsted, CT. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford has care of the arrangements.
