NEW MEXICO SCHOOL DISTRICT MAY SEE CONSTRUCTION Residents living in the Central Consolidated School District, which is based in Shiprock, New Mexico, will decide on August 27 whether or not to pass a $20 million bond that could fund the construction of a new elementary school. District officials say they would like to combine the Ruth N. Bond Elementary School and the Grace B. Wilson Elementary School, both of which are located in Kirtland, into one facility as a cost-saving measure. The Bond school last year had 369 students, while the Wilson school housed 266 students. The new school, which would be built to house up to 700 students, would go up near both facilities. If the bond is passed, work on the new school could begin next year, with a completion date set for the fall 2016 semester. The total construction price tag for the new facility is nearly $25 million. Additional funds are expected to come primarily through the New Mexico Public School Capital Outlay Council.
