NEW: MWST starting in October will be throwing one player every month into the SPOTLIGHT! Players who are selected will be featured on the MezzWestStateTour site! Octobers Player of the month is Mr. Phillip Prentice. We chose Phil because he embodies what a true gentleman of the game should be. He is constantly improving and is always looking to learn something new from each and every player he meets. When we caught up with Phil and asked him some questions, in true fashion, he answered them honestly and with complete professionalism. 1. How long have you been playing? Ive been playing pool off and on for 18 years, although my competitive playing has been roughly 10 years. 2. Whats your favorite game? I dont necessarily have a favorite game as I think each game poses different challenges and exposes weaknesses that I need to improve upon. Lately, Ive been playing a lot of 10 ball and straight pool. 3. Whats your biggest inspiration for pool? Pool provides me a desire and outlet to reach personal goals in life. It provides me the opportunity to travel and see new places, meet new people, become a champion, etc. Most importantly, pool has and always will challenge me, and without challenges I wont continue to grow as a person and player. 4. Whos your favorite player? There is that favorite word again. I dont have an overall favorite player but I do have some favorite traits that players possess. Shane Van Boening has been someone Ive envied for his relentless work he puts into the game. For mental toughness, Ive always looked up to Darren Appleton. For honesty/integrity/passion, I admire Ernesto Dominguez. He has dedicated his life to pool as a professional player, top notch table mechanic, and raising future champions. 5. What have you most improved on? My biggest improvement, without a doubt, would have to be my consistency. I feel as though Ive had the tools for a long time, but now I am able to use them with better consistency 6. Where do you live and where are you from? I currently live in Northern California (El Dorado Hills). I started playing pool at Ferronis Golden Cue in Merced, CA. 7. How has the tour helped you in your pool playing? This tour has provided me the opportunity to compete with some of the best players in the state. Ive definitely sharpened my mental toughness and my own personal confidence. I feel with the tour format, I honestly have a chance at snapping one of these off. WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO CONGRATULATE PHIL AND HIS WIFE ON CELEBRATING THEIR 15th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY!
