NEW OUTSIDE PLAY CENTER PLANNED!!! The kids really like to dig in dirt. They like it so much I am putting in a dirt play area/mud kitchen in the back yard for them. Right now, they dig holes in the dirt under the swing set, which makes the ground uneven and unsafe for kids playing. So I will just make them a dedicated area for this behind my garage! The space is about 6 x 15. There is not much grass back there to begin with, so its a perfect location. I will outline the area with landscaping timbers to keep the dirt enclosed. I plan on using a mixture of black dirt and sand so when it rains it isnt total mud, the sand will help with drainage. In this space will be an old table with bowls, scoops, large spoons, hand shovels, water buckets they can fill at the hose and carry over, and large trucks and tractors. I anticipate mud pies and mud/leaf soup & roadways and excavation!
